As you earn the rank of First Class and enter the age of 13 you become eligible to get invited to go on High Adventure trips. High Adventure trips are special trips just for the older, more experienced Scouts. Normally, they require many of the Scout skills learned as a younger Scout, and require more strength and stamina. High Adventure is an elite weeklong or even longer camping trip that is full of fun and challenges. On high adventure you could sail the waters of the Florida Keys, hike the mountains of Colorado, or even white water raft the rivers of West Virginia. Trips are decided one to two years in advanced and sometimes take that long to plan and coordinate. A scout must earn the right to attend a high adventure trip. The selection process looks at facts such as attendance at campouts and meetings, service hours, rank advancement, and much more. The most important quality to have to be selected for High Adventure is scout spirit!!!

The BSA also has it’s own High Adventure camps: Philmont a back-packing camp in New Mexico, the Northern Tier canoe base in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota / Ontario, and Sea Base in the Florida Keys. Many Council’s also maintain their own High Adventure camps; Cleveland’s is called Tinnerman, which is a canoe base off of Georgian Bay in Ontario. Every 4 years the Boy Scouts have a National Jamboree where Scouts from all over the country, and even other countries, come together for the biggest and grandest summer camp experience you could ever imagine.
